Considerations for Parents

Practice Times

Travel Basketball practices are held twice each week at one of the four available gymnasiums on the Island (West Tisbury, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and The Boys & Girls Club).

Practices start at 6:00pm or 7:00pm and take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, depending on assigned gym times.

Court reservations are typically limited to very tight timeframes, so we ask that all of our players arrive to practice on time and receive pickup promptly after practice. As always, if there is a challenge with timing for a given practice, please contact your coach.

Player Safety

We recognize the value of player health, and we are continually working to prioritize the safety and well-being of our players. With that in mind, we currently provide every coach with the following safety equipment:

  • First Aid Kit

  • Ice Packs

  • Sticky Mats

For the 2024-25 season we will also require coaches to take first aid training, and we will provide them with health and safety protocols to ensure they are adequately prepared in case of injury.

Game Day Travel & Gym Directions

Our game day commitment to each of our players is that if we need to travel for a game, then we will ensure that our players get to that game and back to the Island.

Walk-on travel for our players is complimentary with the registration fee, and many parents on each team opt to travel for away games. There is often space for teammates in those vehicles -- whether parents have off-Island vehicles or reserve a boat ticket.

If you need gym directions, please click here. If your player needs a ride, then our coaches will work with you to coordinate travel.

Compliance

One of our primary goals as an organization is to provide a safe environment for players to learn the game of basketball, engage in good-spirited competition, and practice good sportsmanship.

We safeguard our environment by requiring our coaches to pass the iCORI and sign a Coaches Code of Conduct. We also provide them with a set of guidelines and guardrails to ensure players have the best possible chance of success.

In addition, we require all players and parents to review and sign the Player-Parent Code of Conduct.
